The Maine @ Union Transfer 11.9

Ryan Bowman

I was never really a fan of “album concerts” until I saw The Maine’s Modern Nostalgia show on Thursday night at Union Transfer. Playing the entirety of their two most recent albums, Lovely Little Lonely (2017) and American Candy (2015), it was obvious that these albums were made with the intention of listening front to back. Honestly, these two albums are my favorite of their six studio albums, although I didn’t start listening to them feverishly until 2013 or so. Starting off with Lovely Little Lonely, they blasted through the 12 piece album with passion, infectious energy, and fans screaming the lyrics back at them.

After a brief intermission, the mood lightened considerably as they opened with “Miles Away.” the first track off American Candy. An Alt-Press nomination for 2016 Album of the Year, the album is noticeably lighter and more pop-rock. They played with the same passion and energy as they did the hour before, finishing off with their usual finale song, “Another Night on Mars.”

They play one more show in 2017 in NJ before heading to Australia for a few shows in February.
